Last week our organization upgraded from CWSI 2.4 to CWSI LMS 2.1
(5th ed. CD). We are getting complaints from users that the CWSI server is
hitting non network device hosts (workstations and servers) with ICMP packets. Would appreciate any insight into the user tracking discovery process that would explain what the ANI server is trying to do in discovering new devices which would justify queries to end hosts. Thanks

You can look at the Campus Manager docs on CCO which goes over as to how UT discovers the end nodes etc.
Launch UT and goto, Edit-Preferences->Discovery and turn off Ping Sweep if enabled (it is enabled by default) and see if it makes any difference.

Thanks, turning Ping Sweep off as you suggested did the trick- I would have guessed this was an individual config setting but it seems to affect the overall server function.
