Data Compression over Ethernet

Is this Possible??

Re: Data Compression over Ethernet

Data compression technology maximizes bandwidth and increases WAN link efficiency by enabling more data to be sent in every packet. The LAN segment has enough BW and hence I don't see the necessity for compression since it would increase the overhead.

The ppp compression commands are available at:

Re: Data Compression over Ethernet

Agreed, Normally there is enough BW to handle most any requirements....However this is a special case.....The application we are dealing with requires/generates....320-420kbps per unit , per screen. With compression on (over a T1 link) we were able to get this down to 32kbps. Now we have a customer who wants to deploy this remote viewing solution without forking out the bucks for a telco circuit while he has an existing Ethernet-type WAN.
