Database backup

I can't seem to backup database. No matter where I locate the target, I keep getting "backup failed" with no error message. Is there a particular log I can look in to find what the error is?

The backup directory must be writeable by the user casuser on UNIX systems. There should be a log file created under the target location.

Format--/generation_number/suite/directory/filename

Example--/1/cmf/database/cmf.db

The log file should tell you why it is failing
