design question

we are re designing our network here, bascially we have a lan extension to one of our other offices, there default gateway is here at the main office, my question is do I put a router at the other end to segment the network, or do I put them on a seperate vlan ? which is best ?

Also if im using a dhcp server here, how could I make it issue ip addresses into the other vlan ?

Re: design question

where exactly would I apply the iphelper address ?, on my switches ?

Purple

Re: design question

The helper-address would be configured on your router interfaces - the interfaces where the hosts which require DHCP service are located.

Pls do rate posts that help.

Re: design question

so if I had vlans terminated on my router under subinterfaces, where would I issue this command ?

thanks

Re: design question

Hi

U need to enter it under the sub-interface mode.

Router(config)#interface f0/0.2

Router(config-subif)#ip address <> <>

Router(config-subif)#encapsulation dot1q 2

Router(config-subif)#ip helper-address

Hope this helps
