I am trying to document the routers at all of my remote locations. I was hoping to be able to gather the serial number of the routers remotely through the CLI so that I can determine if they are under currently supported under a Cisco service contract or not. Is there a command that I can use to do this? I thought that the 'show diag' would display it, but the serial numbers there do not match the ones on the back of the router from what I can tell.
Thanks,
Justin Loucks

For routers, you first need to add the chassis serial number manually in the router config via CLI using the command "snmp-server chassis-id
Router#sh snmp
Chassis: 1234567890 <----!!!
Contact: Foo
373698 SNMP packets input
0 Bad SNMP version errors

Pls also note that the serial number output in the show version is that of the mainboard.
