Many gigabit connected hosts getting backed up to a single host. How useful is the DFC daughter-board on a 650x in this scenario? It seems to me that the DFC is mostly used for *intra-module* speed increases and not really *inter-module*. Is this correct?
The DFC gives you distributed forwarding, so each line card is capable of making a forwarding decision instead of using the supervisor to do so. The forwarding is done via the switch fabric, so you could say the DFCs offloads the supervisor.
Using DFCs will give you this 'supervisor offload' for any traffic, not just traffic that stays on the blade. (Actually, even 'local' traffic doesn't *stay* local, but still hits the fabric).
