A vendor would like use DHCP and have an IP address assigned per port. They would like to roam from room to room and get a different IP address based on where the instrument is located. This cuts down the time for the tech to statically change the ip and they would remotely know where the instrument is based on the IP assigned. I don't believe it is possible however, the instrument maker states it is. I am waiting for docs to confirm but wanted to throw it out here for feedback.
If the instrument is being powered off when it roams from room to room, then it should be able to get a different IP address if you have different DHCP pools for each port. If the instument is not being powered off, then it will still hold the same IP address unless it is powered off or a release/renew is issued.
