dialer idle-timeout

this is my configuration on as5350.it is fine.

interface Group-Async0

ip unnumbered FastEthernet0/0

encapsulation ppp

async mode interactive

peer default ip address pool pooltest

ppp authentication pap

group-range 1/00 2/59

end

i want the connection goes down when there is no traffic on the link.so i change the configuration to this:

interface Group-Async0

ip unnumbered FastEthernet0/0

encapsulation ppp

dialer in-band

dialer idle-timeout 300

async mode interactive

peer default ip address pool pooltest

ppp authentication pap

group-range 1/00 2/59

end

i add "dialer in-band" and "dialer idle-timeout 300" .

so my customers tell me that every 5 minutes, the connection goes down even though there is some interesting traffic occurs.

I do not understand, what is happen ?

my ios ver is "Version 12.2(2)XB6"

Re: dialer idle-timeout

You need to define which traffic is "interesting".

interface Group-Async0

dialer-group 1 ! use dialer-list 1

! define all ip traffic as interesting

dialer-list 1 protocol ip permit

If you want to specify the interesting traffic with more detail, you can use an access list like this:

dialer-list 1 protocol ip list 100

access-list 100 deny udp any any eq rip

access-list 100 permit ip any any

Re: dialer idle-timeout

It is possible if you are connecting to an interface that is also configured as a dialer interface with a dialer-group applied that the disconnect is happening at this side . The side that receives the call does not need to be a dialer interface , if you need this change your dialer-list to permit ip any , You can verify if this is the case by logging in to the head end and doing a sh dialer to check if the dialer timer is counting down .
