Dialer interface determining connection to the router with rip vs. static
We had recently changed from isdn to frame-relay and the dialer interface was left in the config unknowingly. Everything still worked fine and then we decided to remove rip on the stub networks and statically route to them. As soon as we removed rip, the connection screeched to a near halt, but we could still get to the router, each command not being executed until at least 20-40 seconds later. We reapplied rip and the network sped up again to normal. We noticed the Dialer interface being active and removed it. Then we removed rip again and everything worked fine. How are these two connected? Any explanation of this?
