difference between "ip domain-name" and "ip name-server"

Just wanted to ask a question. What is the difference between "ip domain-name" and "ip name-server"?

Also could there be any problems with attempting to ssh to the device if the ip domain-name was misconfigured?

Thanks

Re: difference between "ip domain-name" and "ip name-server"

Hi.

In the future, please have al look to the following URL

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/Cmdlookup/home.pl

and type your command, to receive some informations about it.

ip domain-name

is to define a default domain name that the Cisco IOS software uses to complete unqualified host names (names without a dotted-decimal domain name),

ip name-server

Is to specify the address of one or more name servers to use for name and address resolution

Sorry, I cant give you a qualified answer to the second part of your question. I have not enough experiences within ssh.

Best regards

Regarding your second part,Yes there can be some problem faced if U r running SSH with a TCP wrapper and have host.allow & host.deny file.

With regards,
