directed broadcasts

Hi,

I know that the command "ip help address 10.1.1.255" will forward the udp broadcast to the subnet 10.1.1.0/24, and command "no ip directed-broadcast" will prevent the directed broadcast to be forwarded.

My question is that if both of these two commands is configured on an interface, what will happen?

Thank you.

Fujin

Re: directed broadcasts

The IP DIRECTED-BROADCAST is effective on the interface that would convert the directed broadcast to an all "1"s broadcast... the target LAN. The IP HELPER is for the source LAN.

Re: directed broadcasts

Thanks. Mick

But what if I configure IP HELPER-ADDRESS on the source LAN interface, and NO IP DIRECTED BROADCAST on the target LAN interface, will the station on the target LAN receive the UDP broadcast?

Re: directed broadcasts

In this case, no. The station will not receive the broadcast.

Mick.
