Disabling PVST in 2950

Hi,

I am trying to connect a 2950 switch with EI to the network through a third party switch. I need to make the 2950 switch an ordinary switch with no STP/VTP/CDP running on it. I have already diabled CDP and I have not configured anything for VTP. By default, the following lines are there in the config and I cannot remove these settings.

spanning-tree mode rapid-pvst

spanning-tree loopguard default

no spanning-tree optimize bpdu transmission

spanning-tree extend system-id

Is there any way to disable the spanning-tree feature in 2950 with enhanced image? Thank you in advance for your advice.

Murali.

So, sounds like you want a hub. You can disable STP for each and all of the vlans with "no spanning-tree vlan x".

Thank you. When I connected to the third party switch the port got blocked. I used the sytax that you provided for vlan 1 and it worked. Thanks.

Hi Murali,

To disable spanning-tree altogether, you have to disable it for each vlan, ex:

no spanning-tree vlan 1

no spanning-tree vlan 2

no spanning-tree vlan 3

There's no single command to disable it globally.
