DNS changing on its own???? (non dhcp)

Allright.. today on approx 15-20 machines that have the IP/DNS numbers hardcoded into their settings.. mysteriously changed on their own.. Different segments on the WAN, different opperating systems, and devices.. etc.. Very few hard coded machines kept the correct number.. Now we also have some machines the use DHCP-- they kept the correct numbers.. My question is -- has this happened before or what might have caused this..

Thanks

Re: DNS changing on its own???? (non dhcp)

DNS has multiple hierarchy, like Primary and Secondary. If the Primary did not resolve the address, the host will query the secondary DNS Server for name resolution. My understanding is, the host will cache the IP address of the DNS server that replies to the query for some time. But not sure if this will answer your question.
