does anyone knows what's function of the AUX port on 2611

it can be used for dialing up?

I have used this port to connect a modem direcly to the router as a way for me to dial into the router in the event the leased line should fail. Is also very helpful in troubleshooting connectivity issues.

Yes, you can use it for dial up. You can use it to either set up a modem on it to have remote access to the router and you can also route traffic through the aux port. You can also use it as a backup interface.

How do you set up the AUX port as a backup interface and can you use to replace the Ethernet port in the event of a failure on a remote site? We are using Cisco 1600 ISDN routers.

I use the AUX port for dial backup access via modem on ALL of my routers...It makes troubleshooting Frame outage a cakewalk...
