Does HSRP Communication require a Dedicated Link?

Hi There,

I have one core switch and would like to configure another one for redundancy using HSRP; do I need to dedicate a link between the 2 switches for HSRP-related communication (keepalive, ... etc) or will this communication happen through the access switches which both of them are connected to without a need for a dedicated link between them?

Hi

The two interfaces running HSRP will need to have L2 connectivity between them - this doesn't need to be a direct cable.

So yeah, it will work.
