Hi,

I want to know whether Dot1Q can support point-to-multipoint Topology. If yes then how. I could not find a proper document for my understanding.

Regards,

Pratik

I am not sure what you are trying to configure. Are you looking for layer 2 trunking or is it tunneling?

I am not trying to configure anything. I was preparing for the BCMSN exam. Could not quite understand how Dot1Q could support point-to-multipoint topologies.

Comments please.

Dot1q Trunking is point to point. However, in Metro Ethernet world, dot1q tunneling could be point-to-multipoint(example EoMPLS)

One slight caveat to this is the Cisco GigaStack GBIC in a shared setup.

With the GigaStack GBIC you can create a common 'bus' that is no lonber point-to-point. This shared connection can be configured as a Trunk:

I am not sure whether this steps outside the standard though?
