i feel crazy but i don't seem to be able to find a document answering the following question. I have a customer running a 7204VXR with a 7200 engine and an NPE400. He needs a port adapter - specifically a PA-FE-TX - but needs to use dot1Q trunks. Will this PA support dot1Q or only ISL? I have looked and looked but have not yet found a definitive answer...

thanx!

Re: dot1Quazy

Howdy,

I believe I may have some good news for you. While I don't have access to a PA-FE-TX, I do have the PA-2FE-TX and the PA-FE-FX in the lab. The 'sh diag' output for them shows:

Slot 1:

Fastethernet (TX-ISL) Port adapter, 2 ports

As you can see, it's described as a TX-ISL. However, we are using it for dot1q trunking quite happily. The support for 802.1q trunking appears to be a function of IOS version, not hardware.

Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

Paresh
