dot3StatsFrametoolongsrate ?

Hello I got this counter dot3StatsFrametoolongsrate increasing on a Cat6513 on a Trunk port.

I could not find a good explanation for this counter and the possible causes.

Is it possible this counter increases because a misconfgiration in the allowed vlans. Both sides of the trunk are not equally configured.

Re: dot3StatsFrametoolongsrate ?

Can you paste a show interface/port so we can see it? Also can you please post the sho run int XX for each side of the trunk?

In general its not good practice to have both sides of a trunk not match. This will mean that one side will send traffic that the other side is not prepared to receive, thus causing issues on the trunk negotiation.

Re: dot3StatsFrametoolongsrate ?

The output is the current status of the counters.

Only the counters that are incrementing should cause concern. The total number

(Count) will remain in memory until they are reset to zero.

The counters have never been cleared in this switch and may not accurately reflect the current status.

Use the 'clear counters' command to reset the counters and monitor the interface parameters over time.

I can not reset the counters because the switch is monitored by Smarts-Incharge who is keeping track of the counters.

Re: dot3StatsFrametoolongsrate ?

On your remote switch on port 1/1 make sure you have Jumbo frames enabled on it. I see you do for the port that has the dot3framestoolong count. Make sure the remote side has Jumbos enabled as well....
