DS3 Circuit Channelization

Is DS3 line channelization done by the circuit provider or is it done purely by the CSU/DSUs?

The standard way that people use chanelized DS3s is to mux multiple smaller circuits (DS1) onto one circuit (M13). For this the circuit provider (obviously!) needs to do the MUXing. If you are just using the DS3 as a point to point like, then it is probably clear channell from the providers point of view....

There are two framing configurations of T3. (really 3- the third is SYNTRAN, but I have never seen it used)

CBit and M13. If the circuit is running CBit, that means it is channelized and can be broken down to T1 levels, and in the network those T1s can take different paths.

Usually M13 is end to end T3 between sites. But Cbit can be used end to end also.

SO if you have a T3 at site and it has to be channelized so that in the network the T1s can be broken out, then the circuit vendor would do that and they would be running Cbit framing.

Also there is no clock on T3, one side is internal the other network. If you want to pull a stratum level (1 or 2 tracable)clock, you pull clock off one of the T1s coming into the T3.
