On my dsl router at home, it has a internet ip assigned to it by my isp, what i want to know is, is the other end of the router on the same ip subnet or is it like a serial connection where it doesnt matter ? also what would the next hop genrally be, would it be at my isp's office ?

providing the dsl is over pppoe/pppoa, and it's negotiated, the router should be able to pick the default route automatically.
alternatively, you may manually configure the default gateway to the router outside interface.
e.g.
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 dialer1

So will the isp have a router at the other end , sitting in the same subnet as my wan address ?
