I know this is probably not the forum for this but here it goes...

My boss bought 2 1720 routers with t-1 cards and a 2691 with (3) t-1 cards, he wants to have a co-located service. The setup the 1720's are going to the Presidents and VP houses with looped t-1s. The 2961 that has the three are going to a "secure" site. The thrid would be for backup and synch the servers. Is this overkill?

Looks like it is an overkill, but depends on the details of your requirements. The brochures/data sheets of these products will give you an idea about how these equipments are positioned.
