E1 to serial X21 Connection

I have 2 routers, a 7206 with a PA-2CE1 75 E1 card and a 3745 with a serial port and Metrodata X21/G703 convertor.

Unfortunately I can not get the 2 router ti talk to see each other. The 7206 sees the line as down, protocal down, unless the convertor is set to loop when it sees the line as up/looped. The 3745 sees the line as up/down.

The line has been tested with 2 3745 router and 2 convertor, with no problems. But I have to use the 7206.

I think it's a basic setup thing that I am missing, but can anybody get me some pointers.

Re: E1 to serial X21 Connection

Does your config look anything like this ;

controller e1 2/1/1

linecode hdb3

framing crc4

channel-group 0 timeslots 1,3-5,7-9

interface serial 2/1/1:0

ip address 10.10.150.1 255.255.255.252

ALSO have a look at the output from 'show diag' and 'show controller'...

more info; http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/core/cis7505/portadpt/multi_ch/pa_c2ce1/3519conf.htm#1038432

best of luck !

Re: E1 to serial X21 Connection

When the converters work in pairs, one is master and the other is slave. Normally the master provides the clocking as well.

Could try making the 7206 the clock source.
