Easy Question. How to change my Enable Password

I recently took over as the Network Admin and am attempting to change the "enable" password on my 1601 router. After logging in to the router with the enable command and in the config term I typed enable password the value and return. Next I typed copy run start rebooted attempted to login with the new password with no success. The old password continues to stay in the router. Does anyone know how to change the enable password?

A million thanks in advance, John.

try "enable secret new-password". If they are both in there this is the one it uses.

Not applicable

Verify your router is not using an enable secret password. If it is you will need to change the enable secret as this overrides the enable password.

config t

enable secret password
