%EC-5-UNBUNDLE: Interface Gi1/2 left the port-channel Po1

We have 2 Cisco 4006's configured with 2 GEC's between them and recently the above messages have started appearing on our Syslog server.

There is also a corresponding %EC-BUNDLE:Int Gi1/2 joined port-channel Po1 a second later. The message is appearing on both switches.

Each GEC is configured the same and each interface is connected to the same port on the opposing switch i.e. Gi1/1 = Gi1/1 & Gi1/2 = Gi1/2.

However an earlier message suggested that Gi1/2 is auto and Gi1/1 is 1000M.

Would it be worth setting the speed and duplex on the GEC interfaces to prevent the bundling/unbundling messages or could there be a hardware/software fault?

Our IOS s/w is version 12.1(8a)EW1 Early deployment Release Software (fc1).

Any advice appreciated.

Are you using 10/100/1000 ports or are they fiber ports? If it is 1000Basex ports, you cannot change speed/duplex(it is always 1000Mbps/full duplex).

If you can, upgrade the IOS to 12.1(19)EW1

Yes, they are the two fibre ports on the Supervisor module III (WS-X4014)on each switch.

Would the IOS upgrade fix this problem is that just to cover bug fixes etc?

Thanks

Re: %EC-5-UNBUNDLE: Interface Gi1/2 left the port-channel Po1

I suggested 19EW1 as it has lot of bug fixes including IP4 security vulnerability and better diagnostics to track bad/flaky hardware.

You might want to enable UDLD as well

Also what channel mode are you using?
