EIGRP Functional Limits

Has anyone run into a functional limitation on the number of routers within a single EIGRP AS. The number of routes is in the 4000 range and cannot be summarized until a re-addressing project is complete. Regardless, is there a high water mark or what is the highest number of routers people have seen in a stable single EIGRP AS.

Re: EIGRP Functional Limits

This is a hard one to put a specific number on. EIGRP scalability has a lot to do with how large the Query range is. So, if for example, you had 200 routers all in one EIGRP AS fully meshed you'd most likely have some serious SIA type issues.

I work with a customer with well over 4000 routes and about 300 routers participating in one EIGRP AS. There is a lot of summarization and filtering going on to allow this to function as it does but, in my opinion, this is far to large to grow EIGRP or most IGPs for that matter.

Hope this helps you out,

Don
