enabling MLS

I have several 4006's but I noticed one is not running MLS:

Multilayer switching not supported on feature card.

Is this due to the "age" of the IOS? If I upgrade to 6.2 will this fix the MLS issue?

Cat4000 with Sup1 or Sup2 does not do MLS. If you have switches running newer versions of CAT OS, you can do a sh mls, but it has got no relevance as it does not do MLS.

Catalyst cat4000 Supervisor 1/2 is only Layer 2 device and does not support MLS. If you need layer 3 routing support, you either use External router (without MLS) or use WS-X4232-L3 module (which switches packets in hardware). Again the MLS is specific way of switching packets applicable to certain cat5k switches and cat6k sup1 switches.

If you ineed ntergrated routing and switching using CEF/hardware forwarding, use Catalyst 4000 Sup3 (WS-X4014).
