encryp password for line con/vty

What is the command to encrypt the passwords for line console as well as line vty sessions.

There are only 2 parameters available after Router(config-line)# password <parameter> command.

(config-line)# password 0 <samplepassword>

(config-line)# password 7 <samplepassword>

I tried all combinations but none seem to encrypt the password. When i type show run, the password is in clear text.

What am i missing?

Thanks in advance!

Re: encryp password for line con/vty

Hi Marvin, you need to include the global config command service password-encryption

and use password under your line configs. Don't use password 0 or 7 as you are telling the router that what follows is either clear text (0) or already encrypted (7).
