What does this message mean ? " %EARL-3-SETVLANTIMER: Failure to set timer " ?

Full Error message would be;

"EARL-3-SETVLANTIMER: Failure to set timer [dec] from vlan [dec]"

This message indicates that the EARL cannot set the aging timer for this VLAN. Timer [dec] is the timer number and vlan [dec] is the VLAN number.

This is a good answer but I had also found it on the site of Cisco.

What can I do, what is the recommandation for this problem.

Make sure Portfast is configured on all workstations, servers, and appliance ports is the first thing to do. Second, is to issue the show spantree stat command and track down the TCNs. Could be a link flapping or STP problem.

Check for STP TCNs, you may be getting an excessive number of them.
