Hi Keshav,

This message has a logging severity level 4, which means that they are merely warnings.

What it indicate was that the PFC has detected ip packets with CRC errors. There is

nothing to worry about from the switch side, as it is dropping the bad packet, which would

have been dropped anyway by the receiving device.

The only thing you have to be concerned

about is that there is a device which is sending these bad packets such as a bad NIC.

Unfortunately, our forwarding engine doesn't keep track of the source-ip of the device

which is sending these bad packets. Hence, the only way to detect these devices is to put

a sniffer and track it down to a source.

Again this message is just a warning / information message from the switch.

Can you confirm which sup engine you are having and which code it is running?

Hi Ankur,

But this message appeared on a 7206 VXR running IOS 12.3(5E), is this error message from 6509 Sup2's PFC appearing on 7206 VXR?

Appreciate your feedback.

Regards,

Keshav

Ankur,

Oops... sorry, for your question we are using Sup2 with PFC2, and running software Cat OS 8.4(3).

Regards,

Keshav

Hi Keshav,

I have seen this error message on sup engines running catos and not sure if they can be seen on 7206 but are you sire it is 7206 or 7200 running sup engines?

But for sure these are not related to any hardware issue but merely dropping the bad pacets, it was done silently in old images but in new images it is disaplyed as you are seeing in your system.

Hi Ankur,

Sorry for the delay, it is a 7206 VXR router with NPE G1 and I/O Controller.

This is a Access Router connected to the Distribution 6509 Switch, to access the Access Routers - we first telnet into the Distribution Router (MSFC 2 on 6509) and telnet to the Access Router.

Is this error message of the Distribution Switch Prompt or actually from the Access Router.

Regards,

Keshav
