Ethernet Collision

What is the acceptable limit on ethernet collision? On CCO's "Troubleshooting Ethernet" says 0.1 percent but I remeber my instructor telling me it's .01 percent. Which is correct?

Thanks,

John

Re: Ethernet Collision

That's actually a typo in the Cisco docs. It's 10% or .1 of all packets... not .1% (.001 of all packets).

Re: Ethernet Collision

All packets or output packets?

Thanks Mick

Re: Ethernet Collision

Collisions are determined by looping back your output packet and comparing the input (looped) to the output. If they're different, you had a collision. So, collisions only apply to packets sent.

Re: Ethernet Collision

Only if it is a hub. On a switch there should be none. Unless of course it is patched to a hub.
