dear friends

i have seen ping response in mynetwork

which is having 2924 and 2950 switches and 4006 core switch

all conected to core switch thru fibre

whenever i ping from one pc to another or any server

my ping statistics show response time of 300 400 sometimes where as ttl is just 255 ms

if ttl is just 255 how come icmp packets show echo reply time ie response time duration of more than ttl time

i think that packets should be eliminated

can somebody guide me on it

thanx

vishal

TTL originally referred to seconds (not milliseconds). These days it refers to the number of IP hops -- i.e., each router reduces a packet's TTL by 1 before forwarding it. So it has nothing to do with time.
