Extreme high rate of multicast & ignored on GigabitEthernet 7513

Hi,

I am running a 7513 with IOS (tm) RSP Software (RSP-JSV-M), Version 12.2(17a), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1).

The interface that is giving me problems is a GEIP. To this GEIP is a 3508G connected which connects 3548XL switches for my LAN.

This is what I see:

Received 0 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles

0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 334083 overrun, 34925218 ignored

0 watchdog, 129200024 multicast, 0 pause input

some 10 seconds later

Received 0 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles

0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 337709 overrun, 35419053 ignored

0 watchdog, 131079313 multicast, 0 pause input

As you can see the numbers increase rapidly.

Have anyone seen this behaviour before? I was thinking about a broadcast storm but I checked the stats on my 3508G and 3548XL switches but am not seeing anything weird.

Thanks for the help,

Re: Extreme high rate of multicast & ignored on GigabitEthernet

Ignores can be caused by High GEIP CPU utilization or insufficient bandwidths of output interfaces. This happens when a packet cannot be processed due to the unavailability of the packet buffers. Here is a document that talks about buffer tuning. Hope this helps.
