Fallback Bridging on Cat 3550

Hi,

We are on a way to deploy a Gigabit "MAN" in which should we maintain also IPX as protocol. Cat 3550 is not able to route IPX and so we've analysed two scenario:

- Fallback Bridging (FB)

- External Router connected to Cat3550 using Tunnel GRE

I have a doubt using FB for IPX: does FB necessary implies that all the MAN is composed only by a single IPX network also if there are more IP VLANs or not ???

If so Tunnel solution would be more "clean" permitting to maintain more IPX network as desired

Thnks for the reply

Yes you are right that single ipx and multiple ip vlans. the ipx taffic will be bridge between the vlans but the other traffic will be bridge. Plus the spantree bpdus will not be bridged as mentioned in this link
