Hi..when i try to give a IP address to a subinterface in my cisco 3600 it gives me a message that "subinterface should be a part of 802.1q ,iSL, or Vlan" some messge like that..and doesnt allow me to set a IP address to it...
yes!! and i think i found the problem..seems its with the IOS 12.1 i need to upgrade it to a Enterprise version where i could get the feature of encapsulation..as currently my router doesnt show up this feature...
you just need to make sure that you need to encapsulate.. if you set encapsulation to isl or something, you will only be able to communicate with hosts that are also running isl.. PC's won't be able to talk to you.
