Faulty Port & 4006

I have several 4006's and for some reason I will get "Faulty Port" in a block of 8 ports on my module sometimes. I am thinking a reboot will fix it but will not know till tonight. I now have 2 different 4006's with this happening now on one of my RJ-45 Modules..

Any Ideas?

It could be due to bad hardware(supervisor engine or the line card). To troublehoot, move the card and see if the ports come up fine. Also a reboot might temporarily fix the problem.

As a long term fix, I suggest that you run 6.4(3) on the supervisor engines which has better diagnostic capabilities in isolating bad hardware and also many bug fixes. If you can wait untill this weekend, 6.4(4) will be on CCO

Is this CatIOS ver 6.4(3) you're talking about? I wonder why it's not available yet because I'm currently running 7.4(3) for a while already. Do you happen to know Cisco links pointing to troubleshooting h/w on Cat4K? Thanks.

6.4(3) is on CCO. But if you need the features of 7.x, stay in 7.x. Hardware troubleshooting guide for CAT4k is on CCO at

We experience similare problem , we did hardwar reboot for 4006 ordered by Cisco , after that we identify 8 port who is broken, but our Network still running unproprely ( Disconnecting / connecting ) we lost network connection ,

Question is the 4006 will be instable after blade hardware failure ?

Did you experience network disconnect after or before ?

we experience many network trouble since 2 day with our 4006,

we did reset and reboot but that still the same ....?

I suggest that you open a TAC case so that a TAC engineer can troubleshoot and determine the cause of disconnects

we did that two days ago , cisco identify that the slot 5 have 8 port rj45 broken

we remove the slot 5 , the equipement will be shiped on monday, but our network is verry slow and we still lost the connection ,

is that normal if one of the blade failed all the network will in trouble ?

I looked at your TAC Case. The ports going bad in groups of 8 could be a bad supervisor as well. I suggest that you try the replacement card. If you still see the ports go bad in groups of 8, it could be a bad Sup. Also, I see that you are running 5.4(2). We had quite a few issues with this software. i suggest that you upgrade to 5.5(19) which is a general deployment release

Yes you are right , we did Hardwar replacement ( SLOT 5 who 8 port was broken) and update OS from 5.4 (1) to 7.6(1)
