Finding client port by mac address

Can someone tell me how you can find the port a client is on, on a 4006 catalyst, just by using the mac address. I usually find it by unplugging the network cable on the client while logged onto the switch to see what port disconnects. Any help is appreciated.

Just do a show cam xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx

where x = mac address..

Let me know if this helps...

If you have a Supervisor 3 Engine, do a "sh mac-address-table address xxxx.xxxx.xxxx"

Try this;

at the switch; sh cam dynamic (port #) = mac address

at the router; (same segment) sh arp | include (mac addr) = ip address

at a cmd do a , nbtstat -A (ip addr)

Re: Finding client port by mac address

I believe what you're looking for is this:

show cam {dynamic | static | permanent | system} [{mod/port} | vlan]

AND/OR

show cam mac_addr [vlan]

Hope this helps..
