Flash upgrade on 2500

Hi,

Having some strange problem with some new 8MB Flash modules for my

2500's.

I can not seem to write to them in any way. This chips are recognized by the router, but when trying to copy an image on to them there is an error:

%Error: System flash write protected

Note: I'm doing this from "boot"-mode, where the modules are recognized as read/write. I have the same problem with all these new modules I've got and I've tried them on different routers with the

same result.. I have upgraded the boot roms to the latest version aswell.

When using an older module in slot 0 and one of these new ones in Slot 1 the tftp-transfer aborts when accessing the second modules (that is when the transfer reaches above 8MB)with the same error. Also tried with other images - same result.

Please advise - see console output below. Note the write errors.

Any clues - one bad module wouldn't be so strange - but all of them......???

Thanks

/Johan

I think that you have to erase the flash before writing to it

-----------------------------

Erase flash device before writing? [confirm]n

Copy 'c2500-jk8os-l.122-1b.bin' from server

as 'c2500-jk8os-l.122-1b.bin' into Flash WITHOUT erase? [yes/no]y

Loading c2500-jk8os-l.122-1b.bin from 192.168.0.1 (via Ethernet0): !

--------------------------------

When asked to erese the flash device before writing you have to answer yes

Hope this helps

Velimir

Thanks,

I did an explicit erase before attempting the write:

Have also tried the other way as you suggested - same result though....

/Johan

did you try the command: "squeeze flash"

when we make erease flash the ios is ereased logically but it still consume space in flash . to free the space use squeeze flash...

then try to download the soft

No, that command does not exist on the 2500-series, I'm afraid...

I´m not sure this will make any changes but try to change configuration register too 0x2142.
