In the routers, the start-up configuration is stored in NVRam whereas IOS is stored in Flash memory. Boot flash contains just a part of Cisco IOS that is requiered for the router to book.
Thank you for the reply. There are times when I need to know which piece of physical hardware contains each, i.e., SIMM, PCMCIA card, etc. Can you tell me physically where each software piece resides?
