flushes on a fastethernet interface

Hello,

I've got a problem with a fastethernet on a 7206 VXR router. On the show int of the affected interface, you can see the drops and flushes I'm getting:

Input queue: 0/200/14/4199 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 0

As you can see, I have increased the input buffer from the default of 75 to 200. Flushes and drops are still increasing. I have also changed to fast switching on the interface but I am still getting the same issues. This doesn't seem to be service impacting, I would just like to get to the bottom of the issue and see if it can be rectified. If anyone could offer any advice, it would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Re: flushes on a fastethernet interface

Hi,

have you checked on bug toolkit? tryed to change the Fa module (hardware, or first slot)? The 7206 is full?

Re: flushes on a fastethernet interface

Hi,

It's difficult to find out exactly what might be causing this without knowing a whole lot more about the topology and traffic, but a good starting point is the following document (troubleshooting I/O queue drops):

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/routers/ps133/products_tech_note09186a0080094791.shtml

and the following doc (understanding SPD) may also help with the investigation:

Re: flushes on a fastethernet interface

Hi Guys, many thanks for your responses. I've used the sh inter fas 0/0 switching command and got the following:

#sh interfaces fastEthernet 0/0 switching

FastEthernet0/0

Throttle count 60

Drops RP 72 SP 0

SPD Flushes Fast 10105 SSE 0

SPD Aggress Fast 0

SPD Priority Inputs 103921 Drops 0

Protocol Path Pkts In Chars In Pkts Out Chars Out

Other Process 115768 6947091 15194 911640

Cache misses 0

Fast 0 0 3189 4083962

Auton/SSE 0 0 0 0

IP Process 156848379 1597604589 1115255 127279547

Cache misses 0

The bit i'm interested in is the drops RP 72. What is RP, I can only think of Rendevous point for multicast, but we aren't running multicast on the router!! Any help greatly appreciated. Many tks.
