Frame Relay and PPP

Hi,

Could any of you guys let me know how layer 2 features like authentication, etc.. of PPP implemented in Frame Relay.

As FR being a hybrid HDLC protocol, does FR have drawbacks of HDLC protocol, i.e. less security features(Authentication,IPSec etc.) compare to PPP.

Regds,

Re: Frame Relay and PPP

Frame-relay does not have authentication mechanism like PPP. However, since VCs need to be manually established for two sites to communicate over Frame-relay which is not the case in PPP, there is an inherent security feature to some extent. Frame-relay supports compression and fragmentation as in PPP. IPSec is transparent to any link layer protocoland runs over IP. So it can be configured over a frame-relay link also.
