Frame-Relay over GRE-tunneling without FR-interface?

IP-cloud.

To avoid a very complex mesh of frame-relay tunnels we would use frame-relay gateways where we want to break the tunnel and make a new tunnel.

My question now:

Can we make a frame-relay gateway via GRE-Tunnels without need of a physical frame-relay interface.

something like:

int virtual xy

frame-relay route tunnel1 16 tunnel2 116

Regards,

Chris

I doubt whether you can do this since the DLCIs can be switched only over an interface using frame-relay encapsulation. The GRE tunnels probably can be used to transport FR frames over an IP cloud.

This is what I thought, but it would be fine to remove a GRE-tunnel within a router and to forward the decapsulated traffic immediately into a new GRE-Tunnel.

like: FrameRelay-Tunnel-Gateway without FR-hardware interface.

Chris
