FTP stop after HSRP failover

Hi

I have configure two routers on a network with HSRP.

I did a ftp from a client behind the 2 routers to a server sitting at a remote location. I also did a continue PING from the same client to the ftp server.

When the active router goes down and the standby took over, the ftp process stop but my PING can still continue after a couple of "timeout". WHY did the FTP not carry on?

Re: FTP stop after HSRP failover

Depends on how long it took that standby router to go active. The default timeout for HSRP is 10 seconds and since FTP is TCP, it is connection-oriented. During the failover time, the FTP session must have timed out the connection. Lowering your HSRP timers may improve the failover time.
