GARPandGVRP

Can anyone explain the GARP and GVRP in detail.

Hi,

GARP/GVRP are the standards-based version of the cisco VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP). They do two major things:

- allow VLANs to be created in one switch and then disseminate that information to the rest of the switched network

- exhange VLAN information between switches to allow pruning i.e. prevent unnecessary transmission of broadcasts between switches.
