I am having problems getting a 3Com 3C996-T and a GBIC 1000Base-T module in my 3508G-XL with IOS 12.0(5.3)WC(1)Enterprise Edition. The card will connect and auto negotiate but the connection is unstable and drops packets. The patch cable I'm using is only 6' long and is made of CAT 6 wiring. Anyone have any suggestions. Thanks.

What comes to my mind :
1.The GBIC only supports 1000-Mbps full-duplex connections. Try hard coding ie. defining for 1000Base-T, full duplex at NIC, avoid auto negotiation.
2. Try swapping with a different mounting cord, Switch port & then NIC in that order.
