Hi Raju,

The name of the component you are looking for is 'Catalyst 6000 16-port 1000TX GE Mod., RJ-45' and the product number is ' WS-X6316-GE-TX='.

Onur

Thanks Onur . What you said is for 6000 series . Is this module compatible with 6500 also ?. If so , are u sure there are 16 UTP ports only in the module . As for as Fast ethernet module (10/100 with RJ-45 connection ) , It comes with 48 port .

Thanks

Raju

Yes, you can use the module on Cat6500 chasis without any doubt. Besides, any GBIC involved module will be aqequate for you. GE-TX connectivity is obtained by using GBIC-TX modules. If you have (or will have) distributed forwarding daughter card (DFC) on the switch, then 'WS-X6516-GE-TX' module can be used which has a single fabric channel interface. In short both will be O.K. in your case.

For the second question, 'WS-X6316-GE-TX' or 'WS-X6516-GE-TX' supports only 16-port 1000BaseTX connections. This is because of backplane considerations. The backplane capacity of your Cat6500 is default 32Gbps (and upgradeable upto 256Gbps). Each line card inserted into the chasis, use an amount from this capacity. Cat6500 line cards supports 16 GE port right now. Uplink requirement of 48-port 10/100 module is less than 16-port GE module at high utilization.

(I mean, for a simple calculation:: 48*100 < 16*1000)

Excellent . Thanks very much an appreciated.

Just to clarify...

Cisco does not currently manufacture a GBIC that is 10/100/1000 anything.

WS-G5484 is 1000FX mod

WS-G5483 is 1000TX mod

i know they also have LX and ZX, but not 10/100/1000.
