GBIC's in a 3550.

Hello everyone, hopefully someone can help!

I have GBIC's in my 3550-24PWR-SMI switches, and I want to know what the serial numbers of the GBIC's are (I don't have physical access). I can do this on a 4500 with:

Amsterdam#show idprom interface gigabitEthernet 3/2 | include Serial

GBIC Serial EEPROM Contents:

Vendor Serial No. = 53P20850070C3

Unfortunately, this command isn't supported on the 3550. Does anyone know a command to get the serial number of the GBIC's in 3550's?

Many thanks,

Darren.

Darrenj,

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I found it while researching my own switch. I don't know the serial number of my GBIC, so I can't verifiy this information until Sunday, but I'm sure you can on your own.

cat3550_01#sh controllers ethernet-controller GigabitEthernet 0/1 phy

General GBIC Registers:

Identifier : 41

Connector : 46

Transceiver : 57 51 36 30 20 20 20 20

Encoding : 20

BR_Nominal : 20

Vendor Name : Methode Elec.

Vendor Part Number : MGBC-20-

Vendor Revision : 31 30 30 30

Vendor Serial Number : AEFWQ60

I hope this helps.

Hello Gene, many thanks for your reply - you could prove a life saver!!

I can't try this command until Monday, therefore can you confirm if the serial number shown matches that on the GBIC?

Also, can you confirm the exact model and the version of code of the switch on which you entered this command (a 'show ver' should show this!)

Again, many thanks for your time, I appreciate it.

Darren.
