Giga stacking on 3550 switches

We have two WS-C3550-24-PWR connected together with Cisco systems GigaStack® Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC), two, one on each switch connected over a Cisco provided Gigastack cable. The problem is a lot of collisions noticed about 1 collission per megabyte transmitting the Gigastack

interfaces. The interfaces are negotiating to 1 Gb/s half-duplex, we believe the problem to be associated or related to the duplex setting. Cisco's

website states that we can get a negotiation to 2 Gb/s full duplex if we configure the two stand-alone switches in a star topology instead of leaving

the default cluster topology. Can anyone verify this possiblity and recommend the (I believe global) commands to do this.

thanks,

Sujohn

Hi Sujohn,

Have a look at this link and you will get a complete picture with topology how the cascaded and point to point giga stak look like

Re: Giga stacking on 3550 switches

No command, it's the way the switches are stacked using the gigastack.

GigaStack-to-GigaStack cascade connections operate in half-duplex mode, and GigaStack-to-GigaStack point-to-point connections operate in full-duplex mode.

Re: Giga stacking on 3550 switches

Thanks but how do you differenciate between a GigaStack-to-GigaStack cascade connection and GigaStack-to-GigaStack point-to-point connection.

thanks for the replies

Re: Giga stacking on 3550 switches

cascade is 3550---3550---3550

|-------------|

point to point is 3550---3550

|

|

3550

or

3550-----3550-----3550

do you see the difference?
