Gigabit optical cable connectivity

I wand to connect two locations using optical cable betwwen them. What is the best way to do that? Using OC-3 module in router (3600 series) or using gigabit module in switch (2900), or something else? Distance is 2-3 km.

Thanks!

Re: Gigabit optical cable connectivity

I am a network design engineer for Sprint...

See if you can get an OC-3 LR (Long Reach) card. GigE and OC-3 are two very different speeds (155mb vs. 1.0mb).

What are you trying to accomplish?

Re: Gigabit optical cable connectivity

Just connect two locations with optical cable between them. If it is possible I would like gigabit. So can I do that with some module on 2900 switch?

Thanks!

Re: Gigabit optical cable connectivity

Hi

I think you can if you buy the necesary modules.

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/pcat/ca2900.htm

But take care about distances between locations when you buy the GBIC.

We use for gigabit connection several 2924 and it works very whell.

Otto
