GigaStack 3550 and 3548

I have GigaStack'ed a 3550 and a 3548 together. All appears OK but when I do a sho int gi0/1 on the 3550 and a sho int gi0/2 on the 3548 the output is a bit confusing as the duplex looks different

Is this OK or is it just me

I hope this makes some sense

3550:

GigabitEthernet0/1 is up, line protocol is up

Hardware is Gigabit Ethernet, address is 000b.5fd5.3d19 (bia 000b.5fd5.3d19)

MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1000000 Kbit, DLY 10 usec,

reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255

Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set

Keepalive set (10 sec)

Full-duplex mode, link type is force-up, unknown 26

output flow-control is unsupported, input flow-control is unsupported, 1000Mb/s

input flow-control is off, output flow-control is off

ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00

GigaStack module(0.2) in GBIC slot. link1 is up, link2 is redundant link

3548:

GigabitEthernet0/2 is up, line protocol is up

Hardware is Gigabit Ethernet, address is 0007.507d.3072 (bia 0007.507d.3072)

MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1000000 Kbit, DLY 10 usec,

reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255

Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set

Keepalive not set

Auto-duplex (Half), 1000Mb/s, media type is CX_GIGASTACK

output flow-control is off, input flow-control is off

ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00

GigaStack module(0.2) in GBIC slot. link1 is up, link2 is up

Hi,

how many cables are connected to your 3548 Gigastack GBIC? Is there any other switch involved in the stack?

It seems like daisy chain connection...

If there is only one port on a Gigastack Gbic connected there should be full-duplex.

When 2 ports are connected (daisy chaint to 2 other switches) then full-duplex should be set.

Regards,

Milan

I only have 2 switches in the config.

3550 on top and 3548 on the bottom. The GigaStack cable is connected to gi0/1 on the 3550 and goes to gi0/2 on the 3548.

I have loads if 3548 at HQ which I have GigaStacked without any problems

thanks

If there is the only ONE PHYSICAL CABLE between two switches there should not be

GigaStack module(0.2) in GBIC slot. link1 is up, link2 is up.

Either link1 or link2 should be down.

Milan

I have almost the same situation:

3550

Full-duplex mode, link type is force-up, unknown 26

output flow-control is unsupported, input flow-control is unsupported, 1000Mb/

s

input flow-control is off, output flow-control is off

ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00

GigaStack module(0.2) in GBIC slot. link1 is down, link2 is up

3548

Auto-duplex (Half), 1000Mb/s, media type is CX_GIGASTACK

output flow-control is off, input flow-control is off

ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00

GigaStack module(0.2) in GBIC slot. link1 is up, link2 is up

Last input 00:00:00, output 00:00:57, output hang never

The activity indicator on Gi0/2 of 3550 is flashing 5-10 times/second.

Another strange thing I can see - I can not change neither speed nor duplex settings on both Gi ports on 3550.

All configuration was done automatically. Gigastack has 3 switches 1 X 3550 and 2 X 3548.

IOS versions are:

IOS (tm) C3550 Software (C3550-I5Q3L2-M), Version 12.1(11)EA1, RELEASE SOFTWARE

(fc1)

and

IOS (tm) C3500XL Software (C3500XL-C3H2S-M), Version 12.0(5.3)WC(1), MAINTENANCE INTERIM SOFTWARE

Any ideas about so strange behaviour?

Thank you in advance,

//Misha

Upgrade the 3550 to the latest IOS. The problem is that the 3550 is not seeing the GigaStack card properly
