Gigastack Etherchannels?

Hello,

I'm trying to put Gigastack modules on a 3550-12G in an etherchannel.

The documentation of the gigstack modules ( http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps872/products_data_sheet09186a00800a1789.html ) suggests (i quote from the documentation):

"Users can achieve even higher levels of performance in their full-duplex stacks by configuring dual links from an aggregation switch to each stack member. The two Gigabit Ethernet ports on each Catalyst 3550 Series switch can be grouped together using Gigabit EtherChannel® technology to create a stack connection with a full-duplex 4-Gbps forwarding rate."

However, if i try to create the channel it says:

000055: *Mar 1 08:55:42: %EC-5-UNSUITABLE: Gi0/7 will not join any port-channel, GigaStack GBICs are not allowed to be part of an etherchannel

000056: *Mar 1 08:55:42: %EC-5-UNSUITABLE: Gi0/8 will not join any port-channel, GigaStack GBICs are not allowed to be part of an etherchannel

Strangly enough, the other site, of the gigabit etherchannel in spe, which is a 2950G doesn't give the error message.

What am i doing wrong?

Thanks,

Willem

Re: Gigastack Etherchannels?

"Note Do not configure a GigaStack GBIC port as part of an EtherChannel."

From http://cco-rtp-1.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps646/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a008007d75e.html#xtocid1741010

Interesting thing is that 2950 Configuration Guide http://cco-rtp-1.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps628/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00800c6f1b.html#xtocid8 says the same.

Try to check Configuration Guide and Release Notes for the IOS version you are using.

Milan

Re: Gigastack Etherchannels?

I suggest the GigaStack documentation should be altered to reflect this. One simply doesn't expect such inconsistencies in the documentation.
